And the winner goes to …

While the Women's EHF EURO 2014 will take place from 7 to 21 December 2014, it is fair to say that the next major tournaments in women's handball are already looming on the horizon – and the EHF EURO is one step to get there.

From 5 to 20 December the Women's World Championship 2015 takes place in Denmark.

The Danish women's national team, as hosts, are directly qualified. But the 2014 European Champions, or the second ranked team in case Denmark win the EHF EURO 2014, gets a straight ticket to Denmark 2015.

All other 14 EHF EURO 2014 participants, together with four teams that qualified via the first qualification phase, will go to the play-offs which will take place in June 2015.

At these play-offs another nine World Championship spots for European teams will be decided.

However, a berth at the World Championship is not the only bonus for the European champions.

As it is the last EHF EURO event before the 2016 Olympic Games (5 to 21 August 2016), the winners will also qualify for the event in two years' time in Rio de Janeiro.

As you can see, when the EHF EURO 2014 throws off, there is a championship plate at stake, but that is by far not the only prize to fight for.
